On having the same job as your spouse...

For those of you who don't already know, my husband and I are both teachers. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine to be in the same career field as my husband, it just worked out that way and I'm so glad it did. Want to know what it's like to have 2 teachers under one roof???

Paper clips and shredded post it notes are almost always found in our dryer

Snow days are the BEST when we are both home together. Our snow days always include a donut run to Bonnie Lynn Bakery and we make sure to stay in our pajamas as long as humanly possible.
We throw around teacher lingo like differentiation, MAPS, ERB, Common Core and perfectly understand one another.

We always come home with lots of good kid stories...we should seriously write a book.

We get lots of free professional photos of ourselves. Every year we are required to get our picture taken for our school ID badges and I guess they think that we want wallets of ourselves each year because we get them free of charge. Let's just say I need an idea of what to do with all these professional pictures of us besides give them to our grandmas and throw the rest away.
We are never, ever bored. We always have something to copy, cut out, glue, color, grade, etc. while we watch t.v.

Having our Summers "off" together is bliss, even if we do usually spend them working. Someday we plan to take RV trips with our kids and just take off for weeks at a time just because we can.

Once a year we each get buy one get one free Chipotle on Teacher Appreciation day. Ah-mazing!
We know all the cool kid vocabulary, shows, hot items, etc. I own about 15 rainbow loom bracelets.

We know and understand what it really means to see the light bulb go off for kids when they finally get something because of us. It is one of the best feelings in the whole world.

All in all we love being on the same schedule, being able to help kids and being able to completely understand each other in the career we have been chosen to take on.

Romans 12:5-8 MSG: "So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelous functioning parts of Christ's body, let's just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren't...if you teach, stick to teaching."

Do any of you have the same job as your spouse or are we just weird??

Y'all are too cute! What grade does he teach?

Alan and I don't have the same job now or same schedule, but we have experienced having the same schedule. I was working in the school system and he was between jobs so he subbed for a while. It was so fun getting off at the same time and driving to work together. The days he didn't get called in I would come home to a clean house and a cooked meal! It was great!

Aww, I love this! Now I want Christopher and I to be teachers together, haha! He has considered looking into teaching college classes later in life just so he'll have summers off with our kiddos. So who knows what the future will hold! But back to this post - I just love all the fun you guys have together on your snow days off and summers off. And it's great that you guys can both really understand the joys and struggles that come with being a teacher. And as a random bonus... that school picture of Drew makes him look like Hugh Jackman.

Don't talk to me about summer ;) No but seriously, that is really cool. If Jordan had all summer off and I didn't, I'd be sooo jealous, so I guess it's good we both have non teacher jobs.

Okay, I feel like you're under-utilizing all those wallet photos of yourself. Surely it could be a massively creepy DIY project...repurposed into a wreath of your face, perhaps?!

All of my friends are teachers, (I even studied to be one)so I know/remember all of this! I think I said it before, but I just love the relationship you have with your husband! Makes me smile :)

I didn't realize he taught, too! How fun! Lamar and I don't work in the same field, but he does work from home so when we get snow days, he's here with me. :)

Oh my goodness, those donuts look amazing!

These pictures make me so happy, especially the donut one. Also, I know I've said this before, but I'm super jealous of the kids who get to have you two as teachers!!

My boyfriend and I both work in sports journalism and although it's super busy and hectic, it's also really nice. Sometimes, we both have games on the same night, so we'll send our recaps to each other to proofread. It takes a special kind of person to understand the weird schedule of the sports world, so it works for us. :)

Hahaha! This is too funny! I love that my husband and I are both teachers too! We have SO MANY of those crazy school pictures laying around! I told my mom and my mother-in-law jokingly about them a few months ago, and they were both like, "You have school pictures?" So, for Christmas, I framed them and gave them to our mothers as a special gift alongside their other Christmas presents! Now we have 2 less from those huge packages of photos to deal with! I'll have to find something creative to do with the years of others I have hanging around!!!

I love this so much. I wish Michael and I had the same profession at times because he totally doesn't understand my desire to help all children. With him being a state trooper, he sees so much "not good" in people and doesn't always think that there is hope which is a complete 180 from what I believe as their teacher. YAY for summers off and being able to understand the pressure each other is under at certain times of the year.

LOVE this!! It is so awesome that you can understand the trials of working with children and encourage each other because you truly get what teaching entails.

There are so many perks to having a spouse who's also a teacher I'd think... especially since there's the whole summer "off" and you'd both share a relatively same schedule =)

I do think it's pretty rare (and cool too!) to end up having the same job as your spouse!! Most people seem to marry someone with a very different type of job/education. That's neat!
