Last Remix!!! {For now}

Well folks, I did it. I somehow managed to complete the 30x30 remix and it feels so good! Thanks for your sweet comments along the way. I have had so much fun with this challenge. This is my last set of remixing pictures for now...

Top: Anthropology, Belt: Limited, Skirt: Forever 21 Sandals: Target
And here are all my looks from all 5 weeks...
My favorite piece to wear and the only one I wore all 5 weeks was my Aztec printed skirt from Target. I also got a ton of use out of my knit coral top and my maxi dresses! After doing this remix I will never be able to say I have nothing to wear in my closet. I learned so much and would recommend the remix to ANYONE who is bored with the pieces in their closet. You can do it!

Special thanks to Kelly from Mrs. in Training who got my butt in gear to do this remix and for all the other ladies who participated and encouraged me along the way! I'm so glad I gave it a try and I already plan on doing it again.

That means the remix is now more than half way over!! You can tell I'm an overachiever because I have yet to wear my jeans! Hopefully I haven't used up all my creativity and I don't have boring outfits the last 2 weeks. We'll see...either way I'm proud of what I've done so far. Remixing Outfits 7-12

Week 2 of remixing is now over and I honestly can't believe how much fun I'm having mixing and matching my clothes and accessories. I already have a few "go to" pieces that I feel I could wear almost daily and I still have a few bottoms that I haven't even worn yet so I'm feeling pretty good going into week 3. Lessons learned this week: First, I do not love wearing shorts. Why I picked 3 pairs for my remix, I still don't know, but I am always happier and more comfortable in a skirt. And second, experimenting with different fabrics and patterns makes me strangely happy. Here are my outfits days 7-12 including what I wore to a last minute Broadway show and for Mother's day!

Remixing Outfits Days 1-6 Revealed...

Week one of remixing is complete! The first week of remixing is always the easiest because you really don't have to re-wear anything, but I did challenge myself to try to make my outfits more fun this week and wear things in ways I never have before. I actually had a lot of fun playing with accessories and switching things up.

What I've learned from week 1: Belts are my friend, I need to learn how to pose, I can wear sweaters over dresses to make them completely new outfits and I am most definitely not a model. Those may be obvious to you all, but I'm learning! Here is my first week in remixing...
Maxi Dress: Xhileration, Sweater: Express, Belt: Gap
Skirt and Boots: H&M, Polka dot t-shirt: JCrew, Knit Top: Loft, Necklace: My artsy sister in law
Top: Banana Republic, Shorts: White House, Black Market, Shoes: TJ Maxx, Necklace: Fossil
Dress: Whole Foods, Belt: Limited, Blazer: Lauren Conrad from Kohls, Shoes: Target
Sweater: Loft, Striped Tank top: Gap, Skirt: Target, Necklace: Fossil, Bag: Fossil, Belt: Michael Kors, Shoes: Gap
Shirt: H&M, Belt: Limited, Skirt: Target, Shoes: Sperry's
Fingers crossed I can make it through week 2...
Day 2 and 4 are my favorites so far. What do you think??

I'm doing it!

Since I'm trying to be more fashionable and am really into re-purposing this year, I decided to give Kendi's 30x30 remix another go. I will admit that I tried it last year and failed miserably because I got too busy and let it get away from me. This time Kelly from Mrs. in Training (along with my budget) has me motivated to give it another try. Below are my 30 items (actually only 29 because I couldn't find my denim jacket for the picture). I am going to try to have fun layering and adding accessories to make my spring outfits more versatile and fun. I will be posting a few of the outfits I remix the next few Wednesdays. Fingers crossed I actually go through with it this time!!!!
If you're interested in linking up. Kelly has posted the following dates to link up:
  • Wednesday, May 1st:  My 30 selected items
  • Wednesday, May 8th:  Days 1-6
  • Tuesday, May 14th:  Days 7-12
  • Monday, May 20th:  Days 13-18
  • Monday, May 27th:  Days 19-24
  • Monday, June 3rd:  Days 25-30

Have any of you done the 30x30 remix challenge? How did you do?

Staycation

For our 2 year anniversary that hubby of mine and I wanted to get away, but didn't quite have the funds or the time to plan a trip so instead we did a Staycation.
  • Stay-cation: A vacation in which you do not travel outside of your city limits.
This turned out to be a fabulous idea. We stayed at a historic Cincinnati hotel, The Hilton Netherlands where Elvis once stayed. The hotel was beautiful and full of interesting history.
Our hotel was part of the Carew Tower so we went all the way to the 49th floor to get a view of the city from above. For our exploration of the city I chose to remix one of my outfits for the occasion. See below. Top: Limited, Shorts: White House Black Market, Shoes: Dillards, Belt: Maurices

We had gift certificates from one of my work parties to a place called the Cricket Lounge, which I would highly recommend.

We ate to our hearts content and then walked around Fountain square to snap a few more pictures and listen to a band.
It was fun to "get away" from dishes, laundry and cooking for an evening and just relax with my man. Have you ever done a Staycation?

Eye candy

Just to be clear, I am not the eye candy of this post...I'm posting about real candy! My husband has a huge sweet tooth and anytime we wander into a new part of town we look for two things: 1.) A candy store and 2.) A toy store. That hubby of mine is such a kid at heart and I love it!
At Dylan's candy bar in NYC last spring...someone's happy.
We recently explored downtown Loveland and found this adorable candy shop complete with home made ice cream. If you live around the area you should check out Loveland Sweets.

And since you were dying to know what Remix outfit I wore to the candy shop...here you go!
Outfit #7- Shirt-Gap, Pants-Limited, Belt-Limited, Shoes-TJ Maxx, Scarf-Charming Charlie

Even though it's 100 degrees out we are heading to the fair to see hubby's cousin show pigs...I'm going to be a hot, sweaty mess, but at least I will get to enjoy some fabulous fair food!

Hope you all have an amazing Friday!!!

An outfit and a bridal shower invitation

Here is Outfit #6 of my Remix.
I never would have thought to put this outfit together before remixing, but I have been excited to try mixing new pieces and patterns. I am far from being a model so sorry you are seeing the same poses in every photo session. Haha. Now on to card making!

I am throwing my sister a bridal shower in a few weeks and I decided to make the invitations myself. I love scrapbooking, but haven't made too many cards so I thought I'd try it out. The shower is going to be a tea party complete with scones, flavored tea and floral table cloths. Here are the materials I bought or pulled out for the invitations:
And here is the final result...I ended up making recipe cards to match in different colors because I couldn't find any I liked. I'm going to have each guest write out their favorite sweet treat that my sister can eat while drinking her tea. (She is a big tea lover hence the theme.)
I didn't do the invitations all by myself...Sawyer helped. :)
 Happy almost weekend friends!

Like baby, baby, baby...

Outfit #4:
Dress-TJ Maxx
Belt-Banana Republic
Necklace-Gifted
Shoes-TJ Maxx

Our friends Dawn and Anthony are having a baby girl so we celebrated with them at their couples baby shower.

We ate BBQ, talked baby and decorated diapers. I thought this was an awesome idea for a baby shower activity. I feel like it would make changing diapers a little more exciting at least for a week or two.

Dawn and Anthony were both in our wedding almost 2 years ago and we are excited to help them welcome their new baby girl in just a few weeks!
