Dear 2014

Dear 2014,
During your reign, I experienced one of the best days of my life along with one of the hardest. Aiden was born in 2014 so you will always be a memorable and truly amazing year, but you are also the year that we lost Drew's dad to his battle with cancer. We miss him every single day.

This year has been full of changes. We are brand new parents and both Drew and I got brand new jobs! We are so thankful for jobs we love despite the process of getting them being absolutely crazy! We also started going to a new church and found an amazing small group.

It was hard for me to find time and energy to do many projects or cook a lot of new recipes, but I was able to document my pregnancy with weekly bump pictures and letters to Aiden. I was also a bridesmaid in one of my best friends weddings as well as my sister in law's. My greatest accomplishment and the thing I am most proud of in 2014 is being a mom!

Here's a look at some of my favorite projects, events, recipes and discoveries of 2014...

Dear 2013

Dear 2013,
I've made some incredible new memories and experienced so much joy during your reign. We grew closer as a couple, Drew got a new job, we made some fun updates to our house, took a trip out to Colorado and felt blessed in so many ways by others. But you also held heart ache and threw us a few curve balls. I have had to rely on God more than ever before and my goal of being thankful in all circumstances was more important than I ever imagined it would be. Despite the ups and downs you brought, I always like to end the year reflecting on some of my very favorite things. Below are some of my favorite projects, recipes, moments and discoveries of 2013!

August Favorites

Here are a few of my favorite things from the month of August...

1. I didn't do much crafting all summer so I was so glad I squeezed this stool makeover in. I'm just smitten with it and can't wait to glitz up the rest of my craft room supplies. See a tutorial of how I spruced up my boring stool here.
2. A new to me mountain bike purchase. Now Drew and I both have mountain bikes and we have been loving our afternoon bike rides into town to drop off mail, grab ice cream or pick up a book from the library. We can't wait to hit up some trails this fall.
3. Our annual family reunion in Kentucky ya'll. I absolutely love my family and we always have a great time getting together and eating fried chicken, competing in our family corn hole tournament, playing frisbee golf, etc. etc.
3. Celebrating my dear friend Bekah's birthday at a cute new to us spot. We did a wine and dine at a place called the Art of Entertaining. I can't wait to go back. Great food, great wine, fun atmosphere!
4. A trip to Norris lake with my family. We stayed at my Aunt's lake house and had a great time!
5. Drew and I found over $100 worth of gift cards from our wedding (4 years ago) that we thought we had lost. They turned up the weekend before we went back to school so we splurged on an awesome date night.
6. Surprisingly another favorite of mine has been getting back into my teaching routine. You probably think I'm crazy...I love summers off, but I also love my job. I honestly get nervous every year that I'm going to forget how to do the whole teaching thing, but it always comes right back. I also feel extremely loved each and every day by my students, which is a huge blessing. You can see a sneak peek of my classroom here.
That wraps up my favorite things from August...I just can't believe another month is here and gone!

A few things helping to make me feel pretty (oh so pretty)

one: Bare Minerals blush. This blush is a two in one (compatible) and I love it. It has a pink ice blush on one side and a bronzer on the other side. You can use them both together or individually. Jessica Simpson calls this kind of thing a "Twofer"...two for one.
two: Beehive Necklace from Charming Charlie. I love the look of this necklace because it looks like a beehive. It came in a set with matching earrings.
three: Peach Kiss Baby Lips by Maybelline. My sweet friend Courtney made me a pampering kit for my birthday and this was in the kit. All I have to say is thank you Courtney. This is now going to be a regular purchase of mine!
four: Headbands from Charlotte Russe. I had been looking everywhere for inexpensive headbands with a little bling and walking into Charlotte Russe and seeing these made me a happy girl.

Another thing that is helping my look lately is the HANAair Professional Hair Dryer. I was recently contacted by Misikko to test out their HANAair Professional Hair Dryer who claims to have the best blow dryers so I was happy to test that out for myself. My former hair dryer was the cheapest Revlon hair dryer that money could buy, but it did the job...or so I thought. If you can't already tell, my hair is super thick and curly and it usually takes me at least 25 minutes to dry it completely followed by having to flat iron it and then add some curl with my curling iron...quite a long process, which is why I usually just let my hair air dry.

I tested out this hair dryer and was excited at how quickly I was able to dry my hair. It took me under 15 minutes to dry my hair! Other things I liked about the hair dryer:
-Long cord, which I find handy when I want to walk around while drying my hair
-Quiet
-Light weight
-3 heat settings
-Left my hair feeling smooth
-Left my hair with less frizz than my old hair dryer

The packaging of this hair dryer was another perk. I felt like I was receiving the royal treatment when I opened the box and found chocolates, a new hair brush, a heat proof pouch and much more. I'm so excited to replace my old hair dryer with this one! If you are in the market for a new hair dryer this one did not disappoint. Check out the Misikko facebook page for hair advice and giveaways of their most popular products.

What is helping make you feel pretty lately??

*While I did receive this product for free, as always my opinions are my own!
